STABLE Celebrates
The Donegal Aran
We always had cottage stools growing up in Wicklow, by the fire or in the kitchen, which were used everyday for so many reasons. As they are very much part of Irish vernacular and Irish cottage life and are such useful pieces of furniture, the idea to create a new version to include in our STABLE Family came naturally. Our designs came to life with the help of Arthur Duff (well known and respected Irish furniture and interior designer, architect, and brother of Francie) and with the experienced hands of Brian Walsh our local, and brilliant, wood turner from Wicklow.
We designed both styles to meet different aesthetics and needs and with Brian, sourced locally naturally fallen oak, walnut and chestnut to make the stools. Brian uses traditional methods to cut and finish the stools to the barest simplicity. Oiled and hand sanded. These stools take time to make but will last generations to come. All they need is occasional curing with linseed oil and will weather and wear beautifully. A treat for the senses, and a joy to look at and use.
