  • Our Story
  • The Dublin Poster by STABLE of Ireland

    • The Dublin Poster has been a feature on the walls of our Dublin Store for a number of  years and safe to say after so many people asked if they could buy it we finally got around to making a beautiful exclusive edition of them for purchase.

David Kelly, the much respected and loved Irish actor, was originally a lithographer by trade and created this very poster. Here is the back story according to his son Dave.

“Lithographic posters . The production of these posters was a  highly skilled and very time consuming process. The Lithographer would take the illustration and layout the piece then separate it into its component colours, converting it ready to print. All of the typography was painted by hand onto the print plates.

It took years of training to learn to produce pieces like this and it was considered a very good career. Like most, the lithographer’s initials are hidden somewhere in the image. This particular lithogher’s mother was not best pleased when he decided to give it all up, destroy his future prospects to become an actor. He did keep these samples folded in his desk just in case ‘the acting’ didn’t work out and he might need to demonstrate his skill to another employer once more. Luckily this never happened, and David Kelly went on to become one of Ireland’s leading actors, a national treasure you might say, best remembered for his role as Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

To the day she died, his mother held on to the hope…”Would you not think about going back to the ‘Good Safe Job?” She would say. “
